Scaling innovative opportunities from the UK regions into global businesses.
From seed through to exit, Mercia is in the unique position of being able to use a full range of capital (our 'Complete Capital' solution) to build great businesses with global potential.
Mercia is able to meet a business' funding needs at any stage. Early stage funding is first provided through our FCA-regulated third party fund management businesses, Mercia Fund Management and Enterprise Ventures.
We then support a business' continuing development thanks to our Complete Capital Solution, which sees Mercia provide initial seed and early stage funding through its third party funds under management, and then provide follow-on capital via direct investment from its own resources. This follow-on capital is given to the investees with high growth potential, our 'Emerging Stars', which will have started to prove out their business model and technology offering, and are now seeking capital to scale - often globally. Ultimately, Mercia's goal is to realise significant value for all shareholders through an exit.
Whilst we operate nationally, our main regions of focus are the Midlands, the North of England and Scotland - regions which we believe are largely under-served, an argument supported by the 'Entrepreneurs Index', published by Barclays & Business Growth Fund in November 2015.
We have a strong local presence in the regions, with six offices throughout England and Scotland, including:
In particular, our focus is in the following four exciting growth sectors, which play to the strengths of the UK and our partner universities:
We source deal flow through our team's extensive professional networks, as well as our eighteen university partners across the Midlands, the North of England and Scotland.
We are already one of the most active investors in the UK, but we also offer more than just funding - we provide expertise and support through our team of highly-experienced professionals.
Our aim is to be the "go-to" provider of finance for innovative and high growth potential businesses in the UK regions.
